Honoring Our Veteran
On August 20, 2015, Innovative Contracting Services honored employee Herbert J Leary for his military service in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On this day, ICS presented Herb a shadow box to honor his bravery and sacrifice as a soldier. With the help from the Frame Shop of Henrietta (http://www.frameshopofhenrietta.com/), owner Jim Sheets and his talented staff created a beautiful display for all of Herb’s military medals, badges, photos, and commendations. These honors include: Purple Heart (9/8/1970), Bronze Star with “V” for Valorous Action with Oak Leaf Cluster (9/1/1970), two Army Commendation Medals for Meritorious Service, Combat Air Medal for Meritorious Service, and his most prized Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB).
Herbert J Leary was drafted into the US Army at age 19 in September 1969. After completing basic training at Fort Dix and Fort Lewis, he was sent to Vietnam in February 1970. On September 1, 1970, Herb earned the Bronze Star Hero of Valorous Action. After being injured two times in combat, Herb attended the Combat Leadership School and conscripted into ECHO “4 Deuce” Company for his remaining three months in Vietnam.
In February 1971, Herb returned to the United States. Soon after returning, he resumed his work at Rochester Gas & Electric. After over 38 years at RGE, Herb retired in 2007. In 2011, Herb joined our team at Innovative Contracting Services and since day one has been an integral member and mentor to all.
